Emergency stop
The European Union’s Machinery Directive defines key requirements for the construction of all sorts of different machinery, including the integration of mandatory kill switches that must be clearly recognisable as such. The new emergency stop uses light signals to indicate whether it is active or inactive. That’s important because it ensures that, in an emergency, those involved can locate the switch for stopping the relevant machinery or processes immediately. In addition, the switch has a conical protective collar that prevents it from being obstructed by any items that happen to be lying around. The collar also flashes once the signal has been triggered. Developed for indoor use, the emergency stop helps improve occupational safety and complies with the current standards.
Jury
The switch is simple to use and intuitively recognisable – and thus satisfies the key requirement for any safety component. The compact design and the use of light signals to indicate the status of the switch are compelling.
