Switching to fully automated machining processes usually calls for complex and costly adaptations to the machine tools or even their replacement with new equipment. The 1650 gripper system offers an inexpensive alternative under the heading of »lean automation«. The modularly designed gripper system is suitable for use in a wide range of machine tools and is unloaded from the magazine just like a conventional tool. Specifically, the gripper and its various inserts can transport workpieces weighing up to 8 kilograms and position them exactly as required for machining. The gripper system can also be equipped with an optional wireless sensoring system that uses Bluetooth to enter low-energy data about the current status of the gripper and workpiece into the Industry 4.0 network. The gripper’s design makes the addition of the sensors simple and allows them to be adjusted via slots in its housing.

Jury
The gripper is an outstanding example of a B2B design that improves purely functional aspects. Accordingly, the multifunctional system makes a very neat, clearly structured and compact impression. The solution for the individual addition of optional sensors is exemplary.
