The pet accessories market is booming. Dogs, in particular, have become fully-fledged family members who play an active role in their owners' lives. Extensive user analysis and usability testing for the dog trailer prior to its development pinpointed easy everyday handling as a top priority. This has been addressed with an intuitive folding mechanism, a compact packed size and light weight. The removable, easy-to-clean fabric cover provides ventilation, privacy and weather protection. Three spacious openings close to the ground enable easy access, especially for older or less mobile dogs. Thanks to its low centre of gravity, the trailer remains stable when being towed or pushed.
JURY STATEMENT
Engineered with larger dogs in mind, the trailer’s suspension system offers a comfortable and safe ride. The design is ergonomic for both animals and humans, with well-considered details and a soft yet distinctive aesthetic.

"Intuitive handling is essential for
a positive user experience."
What is special about a dog trailer?
ANDREAS HESS: Transporting dogs involves specific considerations that differ substantially from those required for children or inanimate objects. Dogs behave and move differently during transport, so they need to be secured in a specific way. This requires a different vehicle geometry, well-thought-out procedures, and special features.
What do users expect from these vehicles?
ANDREAS HESS: For many owners, their dog is a member of the family, so the demands on safety and comfort are high. This is why we developed the trailer in collaboration with vets and dog owners. Our aim was to create an environment in which dogs feel comfortable: one that is easy to manage, reliable in everyday use, and flexible enough for holidays.
How can you achieve intuitive handling – with the folding option, for example?
ANDREAS HESS: Intuitive handling is essential for a positive user experience. That's why we analysed numerous other products and processes, and identified potential weak points. Functional models helped us test and optimise various folding mechanisms, while tests involving different dog breeds and user groups concluded the development process.

What sets Pluto apart from the competition – great name, by the way?
ANDREAS HESS: Pluto combines a unique, friendly and sporty design with rich functionality. Users can open and close it with virtually no effort thanks to its simple folding mechanism – a unique selling point. Other features include side entry, the ability to be used as a carrier in the car, an integrated push bar, and a clever storage space for the front wheel and drawbar. The product's development also prioritised environmental factors, focusing on space-saving transport, easy storage, and efficient shipping to benefit logistics, retailers and users. As part of the Hamax brand, Pluto stands for quality, innovation and sustainability. Combining a modern, sustainable design with practical functionality, the product features clear shapes and thoughtfully crafted details. We believe that it appeals to both people and dogs.
