Children aren't the only ones who love to play — many adults enjoy creative interaction, too. The modular Hidden Forces play system, crafted from coloured wooden rings, caters for this target group while also offering significant potential for therapeutic applications. Invisible magnets within the rings let you combine all the elements in countless ways. The result is a customisable game that develops balance, fine motor skills and attentiveness. Manufactured in small and medium-sized workshops, the product actively promotes local, resource-efficient production. Thanks to the removable adhesive and simple plug-in system, the game's components can be easily separated by type for recycling at the end of their life.
JURY STATEMENT
In today's digital world, it's refreshing to discover an analogue game designed for adults that challenges the haptic, spatial and cognitive senses. What's more, the results of the game are aesthetically striking and highly decorative.

"Our design and development process
prioritised sustainability and circularity."
Who are the so-called "kidults" and how does Hidden Forces reach this target group?
LU GROMPONE: "Kidults" are adults who are passionate about games and toys, and have a childlike love of play. The group has high purchasing power and is constantly growing. The modular Hidden Forces play system appeals to kidults through a combination of factors. Firstly, the system's exploratory possibilities encourage curiosity and a sense of discovery, leading to free, open-ended play. Secondly, the colourful, geometrically patterned wooden rings appeal to people with an eye for design.
What motor and cognitive skills does the game encourage?
LU GROMPONE: The magnets built into the rings allow players to connect and combine the elements in numerous ways. As players explore the "hidden forces" in the rings, they also develop their sense of balance and motor skills. While the system only uses basic geometric shapes, it offers an infinite number of possible combinations. This encourages players to explore their creativity and imagination. To investigate the educational and therapeutic potential of the rings, I am actively seeking collaborations with relevant experts and institutions.
How do you plan to approach production and distribution?
LU GROMPONE: Our design and development process for the product and its packaging prioritised sustainability and circularity. The game basically consists of just two materials: wood and magnets. Water-based inks will be used to print the rings and the die-cut cardboard packaging. I'm analysing different production methods and locations to determine the most sustainable way to produce Hidden Forces. My goal is to start selling the products through museum shops and design stores.

What does winning the Focus Gold award mean to you?
LU GROMPONE: This award, my first since going freelance, is a huge boost. It has inspired me to push forward with the development of Hidden Forces and create more products that spark curiosity across all generations.
