This studio cabinet, crafted as a journeyman's piece from brushed, oiled hemlock, offers a practical and elegant solution for storing artists' accessories. The main body contains two drawers for painting and drawing materials. The two wide-opening, L-shaped doors feature a selection of mitred containers and an aluminium cube with plenty of space for large documents and other tools. For extra storage, there are modular boxes fitted onto aluminium brackets along the rear wall. A sensor switch activates the indirect, dimmable rear wall lighting. When closed, the cabinet transforms into a calm, minimalist modular design object.
JURY STATEMENT
The carpentry trade has traditionally had strong links to design. This is evident in the sophisticated, surprising and perfectly crafted details of this very practical design. This award serves to highlight the designer's potential.
