The thermostat was developed as part of a smart home system with a special focus on the North American market, where heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems are standard equipment in houses and apartments. Right from the start, the goal was to launch an intelligent tool that is nevertheless extremely simple to use. The understated design of the aluminium housing features a display made of toughened glass that is almost reminiscent of a smartphone. The interface combines simple icons with a large temperature display and intuitive usability; a proximity sensor brings the thermostat out of standby mode.
Essentially, the device consists of nothing but an interface, the design of which is so crystal clear that even very young or elderly people intuitively know how to use it – thanks in no small part to the crisp icons and high contrast ratio of the capacitive display. The accompanying app is based on the same underlying idea of simplicity and directness.
