Working in an operating theatre calls for precision and complete concentration – and it goes without saying that the illumination of the operating area plays an essential role in that. The award-winning operating light is based on 96 LEDs that can be actuated individually, allowing the intensity and colour temperature to be adapted to the respective situation and tissue type. Directly accessible light field geometries prevent shadows or glare and there are two options for controlling the functions: either via a panel on the housing itself or by means of a separate, optional control unit whose interaction and interface concept was an integral part of the design development. That was essential, because it’s the UI concept that enables the user to access the many setting options, as well as complete lighting scenarios tailored to specific types of operation. Thanks to its closed surface, the light complies with the strict hygiene requirements of clinical settings, while the flat design reduces its impact on air currents in the operating theatre.
Despite its considerable size, the light nevertheless makes a filigree impression. It offers a great many lighting options, made genuinely accessible by the impeccable design of the interface. A superb example of the synergy that can be achieved when technical innovation is combined with a user-centric design concept.
