People who depend on external breathing aids often find it difficult to participate in daily life. Unless, that is, they have a ventilator that doesn’t have to be plugged in and is compact enough to be compatible with everyday activities – a gap that Luisa now fills. The mobile ventilator can be used in a space-saving upright position or horizontally, is powered by batteries for up to 18 hours and is also suitable for outdoor activities. The device weighs 3.8 kilograms and is operated via a 10-inch colour touchscreen with an intuitive interface that guides the user through the settings and quickly displays the current status. Malfunctions or problems activate an alarm that can be displayed in a second language if required. Luisa is suitable for both adults and children and is the only device of its kind that can be
used with the three internationally established tube systems without the need for an adapter.

Jury
This is medical design par excellence because the device improves a great many people’s quality of life. Despite the high degree of technical complexity, it is nevertheless simple to use – due in no small part to the large display, the edges of which are protected by a rubber trim.
