The construction sector continues to produce huge amounts of spoil, demolition debris, building site and production waste, only a fraction of which is currently recycled. However, old materials can in fact be used to create new building products that are both functional and attractive – as demonstrated by this concrete block for paving horizontal surfaces or building walls. Designed for optimal permeability, the paving stone contains 45 percent recycled crushed stone, which in turn consists of recycled concrete and an aggregate of bricks and clinker. The brick contains even more recycled crushed stone – an impressive 70 percent – and, like the paver, is available in a choice of neutral or reddish grey with visible chippings.

Jury
This concrete block is a very special product and has its own distinctive aesthetic. Its original look and texture mean the block is not immediately identifiable as a recycled product and give it a very special visual appeal. At the same time, the recycled stone can be interpreted as a signal to the building materials industry.
