Pushbuttons and other manual analogue control elements for machines actuate contacts positioned behind them; it is these contacts that are responsible for the actual function of an electrical switch. They have to be housed under the surface of the control panel, where the space available is sometimes in short supply. For cases such as these, the manufacturer has developed a series of compact contact blocks that need a recess depth of less than 18 millimetres while still providing all the usual performance characteristics. Thanks to their smaller size, less material is required. The colour-coded contact blocks for normally open, normally closed and LED illumination can be combined in the corresponding module holder as required. The new contact blocks are compatible with the manufacturer’s familiar actuator systems; the wiring is currently fixed in place by a screw terminal.
JURY
Even though the contacts operate out of sight, they are very well designed. The colour coding and position of the screw terminal make installation considerably easier. All in all, the design allows for shallower control panels. A masterly example of component design.
