Intended for autonomous intralogistics, the forklift weighs 5 tonnes and is thus able to transport and lift heavy loads despite its compact design. Using the laser scanner on the sensor bridge, the forklift creates a map of its work environment and navigates the production or warehouse halls autonomously. Other scanners integrated into the chassis even detect obstacles on the floor. Because a high degree of in-house production was called for, the design utilises the manufacturer’s sheet metal processing capabilities and cleverly integrates the necessary joins into the faceted overall shape; the sloping front clearly visualises the direction of travel. The housing largely avoids protruding elements, integrated flashing lights on the front and back increase safety. Prismatic mouldings create a clever transition to the lift mast.

JURY
A prime example of what designers can contribute – especially as compared to the predecessor model, which was developed from a purely technical perspective. The company has taken a big step in this respect and is demonstrating the will to create a distinct design for its brand. The design language has been derived from the production processes available and is definitely timeless.
