whiteID GmbH & Co. KG

Innovation partner

whiteID is an important go-to for makers of children’s products, because besides design services the agency delivers one-stop product developments as well. They’re surprisingly complex – and we’re not just talking about the child seats. Andreas Hess, one of whiteID’s managing directors, explains why in our latest Design Story. He also reveals why there’s much, much more to whiteID’s expertise than children’s products.

EXPLORE THREE FASCINATING TOPICS
The activities of the Design Center Baden-Württemberg
The Design Center Baden-Württemberg promotes dialogue between industry and the design sector, raises public awareness of the criteria for good design and shows companies that design expertise can help them successfully differentiate themselves from competitors – as impressively demonstrated by the exhibitors.

Award-winning companies and design agencies
The Design Center has been holding the Baden-Württemberg International Design Award FOCUS OPEN since 1991. Every year, it invites manufacturers and designers from all over the world to enter their latest innovations for the sought-after FOCUS accolade. The prize-winning works from 2020 are presented in the exhibition.

Up-and-coming designers from Baden-Württemberg
The ENTDECKT! format is a very special initiative by the Design Center Baden-Württemberg. The underlying idea: to track down design talents from Baden-Württemberg and give them the opportunity to present themselves to a broad public. Design has many facets – discover some of them in our exhibition!

Detailed information about the exhibition and all the exhibitors is already available. And from 26 February, you can see all the works for yourself during a virtual tour.

Here are our latest new acquisitions!

Design from the Alps 1920-2020
Authors / Eds. Claudio Larcher, Massimo Martignoni, Ursula Schnitzer
Zurich, Scheidegger & Spiess 2019

Over centuries, the transnational Alpine region Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino (Alto Adige) has developed along ancient trade routes between Germany and Austria on one side of the Alps and northern Italy on the other. Similar to the region’s modern and contemporary architecture, its product design is in many cases rooted in a rich local tradition of craftsmanship. Yet since the 1920s, this multi-lingual region has also proven its remarkable openness to European modernism’s most progressive movements and become an unexpected laboratory for technical and formal exploration in the middle of the continent. Design from the Alps, published to coincide with an exhibition at Museum Kunst Meran in autumn 2019, tells the story of a century of product design from Tyrol - South Tyrol - Trentino, highlighting the vast variety of discoveries and innovations that have emerged there. Featured artists include, among others, Fortunato Depero (1892-1960), whose experiments were inspired by the Secondo Futurismo, Gino Pollini (1903-91), a pioneer of the interwar period, as well as the celebrated architects and designers Lois Welzenbacher (1889-1955), Clemens Holzmeister (1886-1983), and Ettore Sottsas (1917-2007). Lavishly illustrated, the book follows the many protagonists of this at the same time heterogeneous and collectively strong scene and offers an insightful tour d’horizon of the manifaceted design culture of western Austria and northern Italy. Text in English, German and Italian.

Trade Fair Design Annual
2020/2021
Authors / Eds. Sabine Marinescu, Janina Poesch
Stuttgart, avedition 2020

Until spring 2020 the trade fair sector was still boasting: “You can’t email a handshake!” Then corona came along and everything was turned upside down: exhibitions were postponed, cancelled or relocated into digital space. It also brought forth new concepts with which we had not reckoned a couple of years ago: virtual twins, AR or VR walk-through stands, online exhibitions with new meeting formats, or quite different ideas that are currently turning the sector upside down, providing new impetuses and making the trade fair a place as we have never known it before. The new trade fair yearbook presents not only the most exciting exhibition settings of the previous year but also entices us into virtual space. Sabine Marinescu and Janina Poesch are both architects, journalists and founders of PLOT – the network in the area of spatial installations. Since 2008, they have been publishing print and online magazines as well as reference books in the wide field of scenography.
